Why an independent auditor, not a tool
The law requires the bias audit to be performed by an independent party with no financial interest in the tool or the employer. A vendor cannot audit its own hiring software, and a self-serve dashboard is not an independent auditor. We compute the selection rates and impact ratios, interpret them in plain English, and put a named, independent signature on the report.
What the law actually says
The penalty runs up to $1,500 per day, bias is flagged below a 0.80 impact ratio under the four-fifths rule, and a fresh audit is required every year. Enforcement is tightening: a 2025 state review found the city caught just 1 of 17 non-compliance instances an independent auditor identified in the same group of companies.
